Post Instagram Reels as trial reels

You can now post an Instagram Reel as a trial reel. Instagram shows a trial reel to people who don't follow you first, so you can try an idea before your followers see it.

In the composer Turn on Trial reel for an Instagram account when the post is one video, then choose how it reaches your followers:

  • Manually: you share it from the Instagram app when you are ready.
  • Automatically if it performs well: Instagram shares it with your followers if it does well with non-followers.

The post's details show your choice. Instagram doesn't tell apps when a trial reel has been shared with followers, so check that in the Instagram app.

From your AI agent Your agent sets the same choice in platform_fields (instagram trial_reel: manual, performance or off) on create_social_post, update_social_post, bulk_create_social_posts and validate_social_post.

Instagram's follower requirement Instagram allows trial reels only on accounts that meet its follower requirement, and it doesn't publish the number. Below 1,000 followers, LotsSocial warns you in the composer and your agent gets the same warning. If Instagram still refuses, the post tells you in plain words that Instagram doesn't allow trial reels on this account yet. Nothing is posted, it isn't retried, and it is never turned into a normal Reel on its own. Post it as a normal Reel instead, or wait until the account has more followers.

Trial reels need one video. Turn the switch off for a photo or carousel post.
